KECHI - Bird, Lyle Russel, 90, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014. He was born Aug. 23, 1923, in Lincoln County, Kan. He is survived by his daughter, Twilla (Bob) Scheideman of Wichita; sister, Delores Pierce of Tucson, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Helen Bird of Blue Eye, Mo.; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren. Memorial service 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, in the Kechi Community Center, 220 W. Kechi Rd. Family and friends will be gathering for fellowship and time to share the love we all had for such a gentle, caring and kind man. Lyle was preceded by parents, Russel A. and Zella I. (Porter) Bird of Lincoln, Kan.; loving wife, Juanita M. (Bierman) Bird; son, Lonnie Bird of Mont.; brothers, Louis, Dale, Warren; sisters, Melva and Leana. Lyle served in the Navy from 1944-46 on the USS Anthedon, a ship in the Pacific. He worked as custom harvester, TV technician and retired from Sperry Rand Corp. in 1985. He's kept himself busy in his wood shop making tables, plant stands and special things for family, friends and neighbors. He loved sharing his talents and his garden goodies with one and all. He will be greatly missed.
