1932 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
ARTHUR GAST, USARMY, RET. Arthur H. "Bud" Gast, USARMY, RET., 81, 0f Kansas City, MO passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014 at his home. He was born November 23, 1932 on the family farm in Fairmount, ND to Arthur J. and Carrie M. (Ehlers) Gast. Arthur "Bud" graduated from Fairmount High School and earned a double major in Economics and Business from North Dakota State University. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served four years before transferring to the United States Army and would retire after 37 years as a Master Sergeant. The last 35 years of his working career were spent with AT&T as an Engineer Associate. Art "Bud" was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church since 1970, AT&T Pioneer's Club, member of the American Legion and life member of the VFW. He had a passion for his work, family and friends. Art "Bud" was often quoted as saying " I've been around the world three times and I've shook hands with everyone twice" He never met a stranger and never hesitated to help a stranger. Art "Bud" also had a passion for his farm/birthplace in North Dakota and was dedicated along with Bruce and Ryan Miller in preserving the farm, the land and his family's heritage. He married Annie Rooda on May 3, 1957 in Raymond, MN. She survives of the couple's home in Kansas City. Additional survivors include their two sons, Scot Gast of Shawnee, KS and Todd Gast of Platte City, MO; five grandchildren, Nicole, Frank, Taylor, Aron and Kelsey; and 4 great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Elaine and a nephew, Brad. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. A committal service with military honors will follow at Mt. Moriah Terrace Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions are suggested to the church.
