MCNALL Beth McNall passed away peacefully at the Kansas City Hospice House February 10, 2013. She was born April 3, 1918, in Afton, a small community in Rock County, Wis., near Janesville. She was the daughter of Otto and Mina (Wilson) Uehling and grew up on the family dairy farm. Beth attended the District #4 School of Afton. She graduated from Janesville High School in 1935 and then attended "Normal School" which qualified her to teach grades 1-8, and taught for four years in four different rural one room school houses. Her younger sister, Doris, who had been to the U of W for a year, convinced Beth that she should go to college. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1942 with an undergraduate degree in Physical Education and then another year of Physical Therapy courses which was the equivalent to a Masters. After graduating she worked with polio kids in San Diego until the war ended. She met Preston through her family and dated him in Madison. When Preston returned from serving in the South Pacific during World War II they were married on June 22, 1947. After he received his Ph.D. at Purdue where Bruce and Anne were born, they moved to Minneapolis where Laura was born and Preston worked as a Mechanical Engineer for Honeywell. In 1965 the family moved to Manhattan, Kan., where he became the Mechanical Engineering Department head for eight years. They then moved to Milwaukee where Preston worked for the Johnson Control Company, and finally to Gaithersburg, Md., where Preston retired as the Chief Mechanical Engineer at the National Bureau of Standards. Beth and her husband have lived in Kansas City for the past 25 years. Beth worked very hard as a homemaker and was a wonderful influence on her children keeping them in various activities throughout their childhood, the girls in gymnastics and dancing and Bruce swimming and scouting. Beth was a natural at anything physical and had a great appreciation for music, literature, the arts and gardening. She was an accomplished painter, potter, gardener and a wonderful cook. Beth also loved dancing and she and her husband attended ballroom dance classes and were revered on the dance floor. All of her children follow in those qualities. Beth always had an enthusiastic appreciation for nature and loved canoeing and camping with the family. Beth was a member of the Humane Society, Save the Whales, The Sierra Club and several other native charitable societies and organizations. Beth is survived by two daughters, Anne McNall of Kansas City, Mo., and Laura McNall of Berkeley, Calif.; a son, Bruce McNall of Kansas City, Kan.; grandchildren, Lauren (McNall) Sage, daughter of Anne McNall and husband Gary Sage; Carmen McNall, daughter of Laura McNall and Richard Silberg; Amanda McNall, Scott McNall and Eric McNall children of Bruce and Julie McNall.
