CHRISTINE BOURDO HARTIGAN Obituary
CHRISTINE BOURDO HARTIGAN 1948 -2014 Christine B. Hartigan, Mission, Kan., died July 25, 2014. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Visitation Catholic Church, 5141 Main Street, KCMO. Private interment with military honors will follow at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. Chris was born the daughter of Alex and Katherine B. Bourdo. She was a loving and giving daughter, wife, sister, aunt, and friend. She attended Little Flower Nursing School and St. Louis University Nursing School. Upon graduation from St. Louis University, she enlisted as a Second Lieutenant in the US Air Force Nursing Corps and did a tour of duty in Vietnam. After 10 years, she retired from the Air Force as a Captain. She then went to work for Smith Barney Brokerage Company and sold stocks and bonds for 22 years before returning to nursing as a Recovery Room nurse at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where she worked for 10 years until her death. Her father, Alex, preceded her in death. She is survived by husband, Pat; mother, Katie; brother, John; beloved niece, Stephanie (Tim) and beloved nephew, Alex (Sydney M.D. and two children Sofia and Audrey); five stepchildren also survive, Shannon (David D.D.S.), Erin (Roger), Killeen (Bruce), Sean (Sarah), and Kevin; and 12 grandchildren, Patrick, Gabe, Connor, Shannon (Nikko), Kaitlin, Ben, Liz (Blake), Mary, Jack, Brendan, Luke, and Ruby; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin, Elle, and Lillilakota. Chris and Pat were blessed. They visited every continent. They liked Antarctica (chasing whales and penguins) and Africa (taking a 3 1/2 hour climb to the top of the mountains to see the Silverback Gorilla, three of its mates and a host of little ones flying through the trees.) It was hard to imagine that these animals are almost extinct. Chris loved to travel, as evidenced by the following countries she visited: Afghanistan, Antarctica, Australia, Burma, Canada, Chile, China, Egypt, England, Falkland Isles, France, Galapagos, Germany, Greece, Haiti, India, Italy, New Zealand, Rwanda, St. Martin, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Switzerland, Tasmania, Uganda, United States of America (numerous cities and states), Venezuela, and Viet Nam. Chris was also fond of animals. At the time of her death she owned two dogs, Ebony, a jet black Pomeranian, and the other a light colored frisky Chihuahua called Tiger Woods. She also owned a tan colored cat named Alfie and four finches. In lieu of flowers, anyone inclined may send contributions to ASPCA, 424 E. 92nd St., NY, NY 10128 1-888- 770-7744.
