Elizabeth Ann Hawley "Betty" Robertson Obituary
HAWLEY ROBERTSON Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Hawley Robertson 69 Spring Hill, KS died September 15, 2013 after a long illness. Elizabeth was born on October 1, 1943 in Waterloo, Iowa, the second daughter of Laura Helen and Courtright Hawley Jr. One of her greatest loves, beside her family and friends, was music. This love began early in childhood and extended throughout her life. After graduating from Anamosa Iowa High School in 1962, she went on to pursue a degree in music education from The University of Iowa. She taught music in Wisconsin before moving to the Kansas City area. Elizabeth passed her love of music to her son, David Sheets, who is currently a member of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Everyone who knew her was aware of the pride and joy that her son brought to her and their mutual love of music and travel. Elizabeth received her Masters in Counseling from The University of Kansas. She was employed by the Blue Valley School District until her retirement as well as private practice. Betty helped thousands of children and families in her role as a school counselor and private practitioner. She never smiled more brightly than when a child asked for a hug, thanking her for the love and support she so happily and expertly offered. Betty's love and support extended to her family and friends and she was always there with words of kindness and encouragement. Her sense of humor and infectious laughter will be greatly missed. Elizabeth married the love of her life, Christopher "Doc" Robertson, on September 18, 2010. She is preceded in death by her parents, Laura Helen and Courtright Hawley Jr.; five aunts and one uncle on her mother's side and two uncles on her father's side. Surviving her is her husband, Christopher Robertson of Spring Hill, Kansas; son, David Sheets of Baltimore, Maryland; a sister, Ruth Kerr and brother-in-law, Hollis Kerr of Queen Creek, Arizona, Fran Christiansen and brother-in- law, Dennis of Bettendorf, Iowa; a brother, Courtright Hawley III of Horn Lake, Mississippi; a favorite Aunt Margie Wheat of Manchester, New Hampshire, many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 21 at Colonial Presbyterian Church at the Quivira Campus, 12501 W. 137th Street, Overland Park, Kansas.
