FLOYD G. CONKRIGHT Obituary
Floyd G. Conkright, 97, of Wichita, passed away March 19, 2014. Floyd was born in Chanute, Kan., on March 15, 1917. He served proudly during WWII; first as a civilian supporting the US Army Air Corps and then as a Petty Officer in the US Navy in the Pacific. He lived in Kansas City, Mo., for 11 years and then 53 years in Overland Park. Floyd had a long and happy marriage for 54 years to Lorene (Peggy) Nielson. After Peggy's death in 1995, he remarried, and had 18 additional happy married years with Aleen Kirkendoll. Floyd and Peggy had two sons, Tom Conkright (Jan) of St. Marys, Ga., and Jim Conkright (Vicki) of Lenexa, Kan. They had six grandchildren, Scott Conkright of Atlanta, Ga., Kim Stratton (Tom) of Carlsbad, Calif., Todd Conkright (Jenifer) of Omaha, Neb., Kevin Conkright (Bobbie) of Ellington, Mo., Kelly Conkright of Lenexa, and Kayce Cloud (Jeff) of Lenexa. Floyd and Peggy had eight great grandchildren. Floyd was a pioneer in the television industry in the Kansas City area. He was a member of Prairie Baptist Church and active in the Overland Park (Post 0307) American Legion. He loved to travel, visiting all 50 states and much of the world. We will celebrate his life at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Prairie Baptist Church, 7416 Roe Ave., Prairie Village, Kan. Burial at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 24, at the Marysville, Kan., Cemetery.
