FRANK CASEY WHITSITT Obituary
Frank Casey Whitsitt, 86, a fourth generation Kansas Citian, passed away December 24, 2013. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 1, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. in the church chapel with the service to follow at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Crossroads Hospice or the Virginia Whitsitt Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. Frank was a graduate of Paseo High School and the University of Missouri Journalism School. He was with Farmland Industries for 25 years and retired in 1991 as editor of Farmland News. Previously, he was on the editorial staff of the Kansas City Star for 14 years. He started out covering the Board of Trade as grain reporter on the market desk. He later joined the copy desk and became state editor. Frank was a charter member of the Northgate Baptist Church and served as deacon chairman and Sunday School teacher of the men's class. Later, he wrote devotionals for the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty. In 1966, he operated the newsroom for the Billy Graham World Congress on Evangelism in Berlin. He received several national writing awards at Farmland. He also filled writing assignments for the United States Information Agency. In retirement, his writing included several articles for the Wall Street Journal. He delivered Meals on Wheels for 12 years and did volunteer work for the Shepherd Center of the Northland. Frank was preceded in death by an infant son, Frank Terry Whitsitt in 1951, and his wife of 43 years, Virginia Whitsitt, who died in 1992. In 1994, he married Darlene Hjelm who survives and has four children and nine grandchildren. He also leaves two daughters, Christine McGilvray (Michael McGilvray), and Marsha Uhr (Clinton William Uhr, Jr.), a son, Paul Whitsitt (David Rodgers), a sister, Constance Biggins, and brother, G.B.
