1921 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
John Gilbert Hamilton, 93, a life- long resident of Buckner, MO, passed away May 1, 2014. John was born March 10, 1921 to the late Stella Regina Gilbert and Ora Edgar Hamilton. After graduating from Levasy High School in 1939, he served in the U. S Army 107th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron from 1942-1945. During his tour John fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Tech 5 Sgt. John Hamilton was awarded 'American Theatre Campaign Ribbon w/ 3 bronze stars for service, European African Middle East Campaign Ribbon, 4 Overseas Bars, Good Conduct Medal and Rifle Expert Badge'. After being Honorably Discharged he received a degree in Agriculture from the University of Missouri in 1951, married his wife of 63 years, Jessie Marie Wilson, on November 15, 1952, and worked for the Fort Osage School District as a bus driver and custodian to supplement the family farm near Oak Grove. He is survived by his wife, Jessie Marie Hamilton of Buckner, four daughters: Sharron L. Cook of Oak Grove, Estella M. Ellis of Buckner, Doloris J. Leuellyn of Independence and Althea C. Proffitt of Washington (all Mo.), three foster children: John D. Hamilton of Texas, Jeff A. Hamilton of Liberty and Candace B. Marley of St. Joseph, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, sisters: June McNally of Wisconsin, Edna Mae Clouse of Grandview, and brother, Frank Hamilton of Independence. He is preceded in death by his sisters Mary Alice Hamilton and Margaret Lee Hill. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10 at the New Salem Funeral Home, 1823 Blue Mills Road, Independence, Missouri, followed by grave side services at the Buckner Hill Cemetery.
