Obituary Condolences

Justus Campbell Hall was born near Watson, Mo., to Justus Glen Hall and Hazel Gertrude (Campbell) Hall on Jan. 4, 1931, at "9 1/4 pounds of dynamite" according to his autobiography. He passed away July 19, 2013. Justus grew up on his family farm in Rock Port, Mo., served in the United States Marine Corps, and attended Northwest Missouri State College where he met and married Phyllis Ruth (Stewart) Hall. After graduating with their degrees in education, they moved to Higginsville where 'Phyll' and 'Jus' started their family. Justus went on to receive his degree in Pharmacy from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and set up shop in Merriam and Shawnee as Merriam Rexall Drug, Merriam Pharmacy, Hall's Pharmacy, and, after 40 years, retiring as The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Shawnee, Kan. A man of many interests - collector and supporter of the arts, photographer, and design aficionado - Justus was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed being involved with the local community. He was active with the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce, sponsored numerous youth sports teams, and cheered on the Chiefs and Royals as a 50-year season ticket holder. While he worked very hard and was an excellent businessman, he also never forgot to have fun. He loved being "Granddad" and was a pillar of support at every sporting event, recital, or birthday party. Between cheering on his grandkids at sports tournaments, Justus delighted in hosting the family at the Lake of the Ozarks, serving as boat captain and expert griller. Justus enjoyed traveling the country with Phyllis and exploring beautiful places with his family. He will be remembered fondly for his sharp wit, epic story- telling ability, frequent practical jokes, and getting everyone laughing so hard snorts filled the room. Justus was preceded in death by his parents, Justus and Hazel Hall, and his wife, Phyllis Ruth Hall. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Deb Hall; daughter, Debra Nemec, former son-in-law, Tony Nemec, grandchildren, Cori Nemec Fair, Kelly Nemec Flowers, Anthony Nemec, Zak Kissack, Sarah Kissack; great-grandchildren, Michael and Anna Ross; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Lenna Hall, sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Don Eklund, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Aberdeen Village for the kind and loving care you provided Justus. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 25, with services immediately following at 2 p.m. at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.amosfamily.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland or the Hay Baler's Union. The Amos Family Funeral Home, Crematory, Chapels. 913-631-5566 amosfamily.com
