Obituary Condolences

Lynda Curley Tomik, 59, Lee's Summit, MO, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Lynda was born May 20, 1954 in Queens, NY the daughter of Edward J. and Agnes M. (Staak) Curley. She received her B.S. in Child Family Services from Plattsburgh (NY) State University in 1976. Lynda worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Del Rio, TX and later for the Department of Homeland Security in St. Albans, VT and most recently in Lee's Summit, MO as an Immigration Services Officer. She was an active member of the Eastside Baptist Church and volunteered at Centerpoint Medical Center where she recently received an award for her volunteer work as a Chaplain. She also volunteered for the Combined Federal Campaign. Lynda enjoyed traveling, the ballpark, and a good movie. Most important to her was her strong Christian faith, which she shared by helping others. Lynda battled and beat breast cancer in 1988 and a brain tumor in 1990. She was one of the first recipients of a bone marrow transplant procedure in the treatment of breast cancer at MD Anderson Hospital. Survivors include her loving husband of 36 years, Robert Tomik; sons Eric and Marc Tomik; mother, Agnes Curley; brother Edward C. Curley; sister, Victoria Lekanides-Burns; and additional nieces, nephews, and family. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Curley in 1992. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Eastside Baptist Church; 19901 Missouri Highway 78, Independence, MO 64057. Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to MD Anderson.
