Obituary Condolences

Michael D. Schembs was born Sept. 4, 1952, in Paris, France, passed away July 16, 2013. He lived most of his adult life in Kansas City, Kan. Michael was an artist working in paper, paint and oils and was a master craftsman in woodworking. Recently he had focused his creativity in hybridization of hostas and as an organic gardener associated with the Overland Park Farmers Market. Michael was a Fulbright Scholar and a graduate from the University of Kansas in 1977, obtaining a degree in Fine Arts. He also studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and the University of Washington. He was a member of the Heartland Society of Hostas and Shade Plants. Michael was preceded in death by his father, George W. Schembs, Sr. and his mother, Aletha L. Schembs. He is survived by his aunt, Vivian Schembs, his brother, George W. Schembs, Jr., niece, Kathrine Olson, nephew, George W. Schembs, III and two great nephews and an uncle. A private garden party will be held in celebration of Michael's life. In lieu of flowers, Michael's wishes were to have memorial contributions to Heartland Hosta and Shade Plant Society of Kansas City, 7926 N.
