Obituary | Condolences

Myron Lester McNown, 87, Fairway, Kan., passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at the Brighton Gardens of Prairie Village Health Care Center. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at the Second Presbyterian Church, 318 E. 55th St., Kansas City, MO 64113. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kansas City Symphony, 1703 Wyandotte, Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64108 or the Second Presbyterian Church. Myron was born Nov. 9, 1925, to Rossie and Bernerd McNown in Topeka, Kan. He graduated from Wichita High School, entered the US Navy and was in flight training when WWII ended. Myron majored in music at KU and transferred to UCLA where he graduated with a violin performance degree. He then moved to Kansas City where he met his wife, Edythe. They were married on Dec. 27, 1954. Myron worked as an insurance agent and was a founding member of the Kansas City Civic Orchestra. He played violin with the Kansas City Philharmonic for four seasons. He served on the Fairway Homes Assn., a member of Second Presbyterian Church, the Salt and Pepper Club and Friend of the Art of Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity. He was preceded in death by mother, father and brother. Myron leaves behind, his beloved wife of 58 years, Edythe; two sons, Douglas and Gregory; daughter, Cindy; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
