PETER WINFIELD HYDE Obituary
Peter Winfield Hyde passed away July 8, 2014, at his home in Prairie Village, Kansas, from complications of Parkinson's disease. He was 75. Peter is survived by his wife of 33 years, Janet; two sons, David Hyde (Ingrid) of Seattle and Peter Hyde Jr. (Jami) of Fairway, Kansas; three grandchildren, Peter Winfield "Trey" Hyde III, Kristina Hyde and Tyler Hyde; a brother, Michael Hyde (Blair); a sister, Catherine Bedora (Allan); a half-brother, Kip Longan (John Staggs); and his first wife and mother of his two sons, Ann Peterson Hyde. Peter was born April 9, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Catherine Smith Hyde and Benjamin Carol Winfield Hyde. Peter attended Pembroke Country Day School, graduating as valedictorian in 1957. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Princeton University, a law degree from the University of Michigan and a master's in business administration from Harvard University. Peter was a corporate attorney at the law firm of Stinson Morrison and Hecker for over 40 years. Among his special projects were arranging the financing for the IRS building in Kansas City, the Arkansas Dam, Children's Mercy Hospital and Kemper Arena. The last 10 years of his career were principally spent working on derivatives, including interest rate and commodity swaps. For 19 years, Peter battled Parkinson's. He did so with dignity, without complaint or self-pity and with a profound appreciation for his wife and his other caregivers. Peter served on the board of directors of the Lyric Opera of Kansas City for 25 years and on the board of the Parkinson's Foundation of the Heartland for seven years. He was a lifelong member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and, until recently, a member of the Kansas City Country Club. He deeply loved his sons and their families and his many canine friends, starting with Rex and ending with Rejji. A celebration of Peter's life will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church at Wornall Road and Meyer Boulevard on Tuesday, July 15 at 3 p.m., with a reception afterward at the church. There will be a private interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lyric Opera of Kansas City or the Parkinson's Foundation of the Heartland.
