DR.  RALPH A. NITE Jr. Obituary
Ralph Archie Nite, Jr., PhD, 65, went to be with his Lord on August 27, 2013, at the NorthCare Hospice House. Visitation will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, at the Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I- 35 at State Route 291, Liberty, MO 64068. A funeral service celebrating his life will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 5, at the Park Lawn Northland Chapel. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Centropolis Community Church. Ralph was born on November 16, 1947, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He spent his childhood in the Kansas City area and married his high school sweetheart, Linda, on December 16, 1967. He attended the Missouri School of Science and Technology at Rolla and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature from UMKC. Ralph served his country as a U.S. Coast Guard officer during the Vietnam War. He was 'Captain of the Port' in Charleston, S.C., where he was responsible for insuring the safety of all freighter ships in one of the busiest harbors in America. On many occasions, Ralph and his crew were dropped by helicopter onto the deck of a burning ship or freighter in distress. Due to his expertise and leadership skills, each time he was able to bring everyone to safety, and never lost a crewmember. It was during Ralph's military career that he began to hear God calling him into the ministry. To that end, Ralph earned his Master's of Divinity and his Doctorate of Ministry. For ten years, Ralph served in Amarillo, Texas, as Senior Chaplain at Cal Farley's Boys' Ranch, the largest boys' home in America. During their time in Texas, Ralph and Linda were blessed with the birth of their only child, Jessica Noel. In 1986, the family moved to Kansas City to join the ministry team at Centropolis Community Church, where Ralph has faithfully preached the Word of God without compromise for 27 years. He has been an extraordinary teacher and pastor to the people there, and they were so blessed by his ministry at the church. Ralph also taught College English, and worked for the North Kansas City public school district for many years. Ralph was an avid sportsman who loved snow skiing and water skiing. He won many silver medals in Nastar Ski Competition races in Taos, N.M. and Steamboat Springs, CO, as well as in swimming. He was also a licensed airplane pilot and certified scuba diver. He loved to snorkel with his beloved daughter, and they enjoyed many ski trips together. Ralph loved music and was an accomplished musician. He developed his instrumental talents on the guitar, banjo and flugelhorn. He also enjoyed playing the trumpet and was a proud member of the North Star Band. Ralph was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Ralph Nite, Sr., in August, 2003. Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Linda; his beloved daughter, Jessica Noel; his mother, Juliet; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Tom and Deborah Nite, Dr. Jim and Sue Nite, Rev. George and Kathy Nite, David and Carol Nite; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Terry Chasteen; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Ralph is dearly loved by many people and will be deeply missed by his church family. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at KU Medical Center, and the staff at NorthCare Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Ralph during his illness.
