ROBERT BURGE Obituary

DR. ROBERT E. BURGE, JR. Dr. Robert E. Burge Jr. 92 died September 30, 2017, in Montpelier, VT. He was the son of Robert E Burge Sr. and Jean Stillie Burge. Bob graduated from Westport High School. He received his undergraduate and masters degrees in chemistry from the University of Illinois. He received an assistantship and taught chemistry at Cornell University while working on his doctorate. He later received his master's in business administration from the University of Houston. During World War II Bob was a member of the "86" Blackhawk Division and saw extensive combat in Europe and also in the Far East and 9 months occupation in the Philippines. Bob was head scientist for Shell Chemical for a number of years and upon retirement started teaching at the Community Colleges in Long Island New York. Bob married Ruth O'Donnell while at Cornell and they made their home in Long Island. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother Bill. He is survived by brothers Joe of Kansas City and John of Leawood, KS. Funeral arrangements are pending.

I taught with Bob at Suffolk Community College for many years. He taught me a lot about teaching, introduced me to investing and mentored me as I learned the ropes. He was a wonderful friend and I know he greatly missed Ruth.
