1935 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
Ronald Neil Buck, 78, KCK, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospice House. Ron was born June 16, 1935, in KCK, to L. Neil Buck and Mary C. Gunner Buck. He attended Wyandotte H.S. and joined his beloved U.S. Marine Corps in 1953, being honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1956. Ron joined the Kansas City, Kansas Police Dept. in 1960, and retired as a captain in 1993. A proud moment for him, was when he graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1972. He was among the first police officers to be admitted to the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., for advanced law enforcement training. Dad lived a life of routine and habit. He loved God, his family and his Marines. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Barbara Bortka Buck on Jan. 2, 2012. He leaves daughter, Kim Nick and husband Jeff; sons, Shawn and Keith Buck; sister, Judy VanHooser and husband Jerry; nieces and nephews; and his grandchildren, Bristin, Saije, Lexi, Kendall, Jason and Gage. Memorial Mass 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, KCK, where friends may call beginning at 11 a.m. Friends are also invited to join Ron's family after Mass for a luncheon at St. Patrick's Parish Center.
