Obituary Condolences

Bill Johnson, 89, of Leawood, KS, passed away June 3, 2014 at the Sweet Life at Brookdale Place. Bill was born July 27, 1924, to Ray and Lenore Johnson in Burlington, CO. He was raised in Lincoln, NE and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942. In his first year of college at Michigan State University, he enlisted, and was called for active service 3 months later. Bill served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II. After service he graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1949. Bill moved to Kansas City, in late 1950 where he met his wife, Maxine, and they were married in August 1951. He retired from Merrill Lynch, as a Vice President after nearly 40 years, as a financial advisor. Bill was a member of the Blue Lodge of East Gate Masonic Temple, an Elder of the Village Presbyterian Church, and an active member of the choir since 1955. He was a charter member of Brookridge Golf and Country Club. He and his wife loved to dance, play bridge, travel and golf. Their motto was "Have Clubs, will travel". Bill was a loving husband, father to three sons, a coach, a scout master, a respected businessmen and a true gentleman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Maxine. He is survived by his 3 sons; David and wife Jane of Coral Springs, FL, Randy and wife Salli of Edgerton, KS, Craig and wife Tricia of Overland Park, KS; one sister Charlotte Hermes of Lincoln, NE; two brothers, Ray and wife Jean of Oxford, MI, Jim and wife Marilyn of San Jose, CA; and 10 grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 14th at 9:30 AM followed by a memorial service at 10:00 AM being held at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS 66215.
