Anna Marie Anne Bierdz

Anna Marie (Anne) Bierdz, 90, of Silver Lake, Wis., died Friday, July 19, 2013, at the Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington.

The former Anna Marie Carey was born on Dec. 22, 1922, in Wilmot, Wis., the daughter of the late James E. and Ruby Ludwig Carey. On Sept. 25, 1942, she married Henry Bierdz at St. Pauls Chapel in Madison, Wis.

Anne attended Mount Mary College in Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin in Madison and graduated from Carthage College in Kenosha. Anne taught at Holy Name School in Wilmot for two years and then at Riverview School in Silver Lake for 17 years. Anne continued demonstrating her commitment to education as a member of the Kenosha County School Committee for fifteen years.

One of Annes interests was playing bridge whenever the opportunity arose, both contract bridge and duplicate bridge with her friends and with her husband Henry. She also enjoyed golf and played in leagues at Twin Lakes Country Club and at Rockledge Country Club in Rockledge, Florida. Anne enjoyed reading and the challenges of crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting and sewing and spending time with friends and her family of four generations.

Anne is survived by Henry Bierdz; her devoted husband of 70 years; their daughters, Ellen (John) Osterhart of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Elizabeth (the late Glenn) Camp of Melbourne, Fla.; grandsons, Daniel (Tracie) and Stephen (Nardos) Osterhart; great-granddaughters, Abigail, Natalie and Rachel; and sisters, Peggy (David) Wiseman of Twin Lakes, Wis., and Kay (the late Ed) Stucka of Lincolnshire, Ill. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Bill Meyers.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at the Haase-Lockwood & Assoc. Funeral Home in Twin Lakes. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations in Annes memory to a charity of your choice.
