Betty Lou Karowsky

1928 - 2014

Betty Lou Karowsky, 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Magnolia House.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1928, to the late Alan and Charlotte (Cashmore) Butler in Waukegan, Ill. She was educated in New York.

Betty married Robert Gene Rowlette; he preceded her in death in 1980. She then married Steven Karowsky who also precedes her in death.

Betty worked at Kraft Macaroni Company and Abbott Labs for a few years.

Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Waukegan, a member of the VFW Womens Auxiliary for 35 years in Waukegan and a member of the Moose Club in Waukegan.

Betty enjoyed movies, reading the Bible, watching Billy Graham, listening to the radio, playing cards, devoted to the VFW, clipping coupons and a huge Elvis Presley fan. Betty was an avid Chicago Cub fan and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her children Margaret (George) Dukas of Winthrop Harbor, Debbie McMahon of Phoenix, Ariz., Kevin (Tammy) Rowlette of Kenosha, Edward Rowlette of Rapid City, SD, Brian Rowlette of Kenosha, Jandee (Michael) Green of Columbus, Oh., Joyce (Richard) Carlson of Lakewood, Ill., and Robbie Rowlette of Summit, Ill., her 20 grandchildren, her 30 great grandchildren and her one great great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Knapp and her grandson, Tyler Rowlette.

Funeral Services for Betty will be held on Friday, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m. at the Bruch Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville. Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the Rowlette Family.

A special thank you to Tarha and Bart Mengo, Tascha Rivecco and all the wonderful staff at Magnolia House where Betty resided for 8 years.
