Cyrus Paul Olsen, Sr.

1926 - 2013

Cyrus Paul Olsen Sr., formerly of Kenosha, concluded his Earthly journey on Feb. 7, 2013, due to complications from Alzheimers Disease.

Born in Park Falls, Wis., on Jan. 16, 1926, to Conrad and Martha (Peterson) Olsen, Cyrus joined the United States Navy after graduation from Lincoln High School. Upon graduation from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge MA with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Cyrus earned his Masters in Business from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University, Evanston Ill. Earning the rank of Lieutenant Commander, Cyrus served in The Aleutian Islands and Hawaii during the Korean Conflict as the Admirals meteorologist with the Navys Hurricane Squadron based in Kaneohe HI.

Cy married Fay (Olsen) in 1948. In addition to raising their five children, Cy and Fay welcomed many others into their home over their years together, based upon Cys words, "We can always make room for one more.". Cy and Fay were group home parents from 1974-1977 at The Juvenile Receiving Center in Kenosha and Jordan Hall in Racine from 1977-1980.

Cyrus loved to sing in the church choir and with his sisters, where they provided much joy to all those fortunate to hear them sing together.

Cyruss Legacy of a strong Christian Faith and Love of Family will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. Cy leaves behind his wife Fay, (Greenville, SC), sons Cyrus Jr (Debbie) of Sammamish, Wash., Norman of Kenosha, daughters Mimi of Greenville SC, and Kristine (Steve) Thrailkill of Vista, Calif.; grandchildren, Leah (Jason) Appleton, Cyrus III (Julie), James (Chauncey), Ben and wife, Nate Olsen, Heidi Johnson, Zackery Olsen, Jennifer Olsen, Steven Thrailkill Jr., Peter Thrailkill and Andrew Thrailkill as well as six great grandchildren.

Cyrus also leaves behind beloved sisters Alda Brooks and Jane Oliver, special cousin Conrad Olsen Utvaag of Norway and Sweden along with dearly loved nieces and nephews and cousins around the world that helped make his time here on Earth so much more meaningful.

Special Thanks to Norma Niccolai for extended kindness and concern during a most difficult time. Thank you to all who shared in prayers and kindness along Cyrus Life here on Earth.

Cyrus was welcomed in Heaven by his son Peter Roald Olsen,LT/USN and sister, Evelyn Forry, parents Conrad and Martha and many wonderful friends and family.

Family Services will be held in the future, somewhere between Rice Lake WI and his fathers homestead in Narvik, Norway.
