Edward Ed Bednarowicz
1914 - 2013
Edward Ed Bednarowicz, 99, of Fort Collins, Colo., died April 14, 2013, at a local rehabilitation facility.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, April 19, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Ft. Collins. Interment will be later in St. Casimirs Cemetery, Kenosha, Wis.
Ed was born March 2, 1914, in Kenosha, Wis., to Peter and Alexandria Bednarowicz. A horse enthusiast, he joined the U. S. Army March 30, 1942 to serve in the Cavalry during WWII. When the Cavalry dismounted he served in Dutch New Guinea. He received an Honorable Discharge with multiple decorations on Jan. 7, 1946, and returned to Kenosha to work at the Simmons plant there. On April 25, 1953, Ed married Dorothy Bleicher in Kenosha. A devout Catholic, Ed was a member of St. Marks, St. Thomas and St Casimirs Catholic Churches in Kenosha over the years and was a member of St Elizabeth Ann Seton in Ft. Collins.
When the Simmons plant closed, Ed decided to become a barber and got his license in the early 1960s. He enjoyed barbering until retiring in his late 70s. Ed and Dorothy moved to Fort Collins in 1989 to be closer to their daughter and her husband and wintered for many years in Apache Junction, Ariz.
Ed was an avid hunter throughout his life and always had a beagle as his companion dog; typically, he named them Toby. He finally gave up his hunting license and decoys at the age of 92 and was one of the oldest Coloradoans to hold a license. Ed read the newspaper from front to back every day and always maintained his love of the church, his family and horses. Three years ago he had the pleasure, at the age of 96, of going on the Honor Flight for WWII Veterans to Washington D.C. to see the WWII Memorial.
Ed is survived by his wife, Dorothy; their daughter, Jean (and husband, Warren) Clark of Ft. Collins; and his sister, Mary Skowronski of Kenosha; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Chester and Frank.
