Garnett A. Butler
1954 - 2014
Garnett A. Butler, 60, of Kenosha, Wis., went to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, July 28, 2014, at ManorCare of Kenosha. He was mainly known as Tony.
Garnett was born in Indianapolis, Ind., on May 30, 1954, to late parents John and Loyce Butler.
Garnett lived in Muskogee, Oklahoma, from age 3 until graduating from high school. He then attended and played football at Northeastern A & M College in Miami, Oklahoma, where he studied computer science. Later he moved to Weatherford, Okla., to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University and met his future wife Debbie.
Garnett enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. in 1974. He was stationed in numerous duty stations overseas and in the U.S. during his active military service to his country.
Being a very active individual, he played semi-pro football for a while.
After his honorable discharge from the military, Garnett drove trucks for various trucking firms, including J.B. Hunt and Prime, Inc. (his favorite).
As his health declined, Garnett moved back to Muskogee, Okla, then Illinois, then Wisconsin. Even though his mobility was limited, he still wanted to give back and did so by teaching computer basics to young kids and seniors at the Boys and Girls Club of America in Kenosha, Wis.
He is survived by a son Johnathan and two granddaughters, five brothers, Larry, Bruce, Darryl, Tracy, and Timothy; two sisters, Renetta and Mary; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts, friends and others that were very near and dear to him.
He was preceded in death by two twin sisters, parents, grandparents (Mozelle and L.C., Mama T) and great-grandparents (George and Annie).
Visitation will be held at the Proko Funeral Home, Kenosha, WI, on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service 11 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Interment will be same day as above at 2 p.m. at Chapel of Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring Street, Union Grove, WI. This will include military honors.
