Gordon L. Lenny the D.J. Kitson, 69, currently of Kenosha, died on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at United Hospital Systems Kenosha Campus.

Born on Feb. 22, 1943, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late Leonard L. and Phyllis L. (Hogan) Kitson.

He attended schools in Buffalo Grove, Mundelein, Libertyville, and Lake Zurich, Ill. Lenny honorably served in the U. S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Belle Grove during the Laos Crises and the Cuban Blockade. He also served on the U.S.S. Bayfield during the Panama riots. After leaving the Navy, he joined the Army and served with the First Calvary Division as a helicopter Door Gunner and as an Infantry Combat Soldier in Vietnam.

Through his career, Lenny was employed at Anchor and Hough in Libertyville, Ill., the V.A. in North Chicago, worked as a cameraman at TV14 and was also a Round Lake Heights Police Officer. He retired as a welder from International Harvester.

Lenny served as a volunteer on the Libertyville and the Round Lake Fire Departments. Always aiming to making people laugh, he loved entertaining as a clown with the Ringling Brothers, and the Carson and Barns Circus. He will be remembered throughout Lake County as Music Man Lenny the D.J.

Lenny was proud to be a life member of the Disabled American Veterans G.C. Martino of Lake County Chapter16 in IL, V.F.W. Junker-Ball Post #1865 in Kenosha, life member of the American Legion Post 510 in Lake Bluff, IL, AMVETS Post 35 in Waukegan, Kenosha Area Vietnam Veterans and the Kenosha Area Senior Citizens.

He is survived by his sister, Kathleen Kitson of Zion, Ill.; his best friend, Richard Dornbusch; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove. A visitation for Lenny will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
