Henry David Hank Andre

1926 - 2013

Henry Hank David Andre, 86, of Silver Lake, Wis., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2013, peacefully at home.

Hank was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Kenosha, Wis., the son of Anton and Celia (Jacukowicz) Andrzejewski. Hank had moved to Silver Lake some 40 years ago. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the Schultz-Hahn American Legion Post # 293 of Silver Lake. Hank enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of the Silver Lake Sportsmens Club. He also enjoyed everything about nature, gardening, birds, fishing, picking mushrooms of all types, and feeding the white geese near his home. In addition, he enjoyed cooking, especially his signature dish of chili enjoyed by his family. Hank co-owned the barber and sporting goods shop in Silver Lake for many years before working at the Nestle plant retiring in 1989. On September 2, 1986, he married Ramona Mona Palmer in Waukegan, Ill.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Mona; his step-children Kathleen Roanhouse of Waterford, Wis., Lynn Riggs of Eagle, Wis., and Fred (Jackie) Unke of Fond du Lac, Wis.; nieces and nephews, Jim Andre of Arizona, Cheryl Watkins, Sunny Andre, Susan St. John, Mark Andre, and Jeff Andre all of Kenosha, Wis., Shane ONeal of Menomonee Falls, Wis., and Kathy ONeal of California; eight grandchildren, Greg (Amy), Carol (Joel), Casey (Jackie), Johnny, Nick, Danny, Robert (Cheryl), and Stephanie; and nine great-grandchildren, Gavin, Mason, Christina, Casey Jr., Alexis, Austin, Tyler, Nicole, and Kiera. In addition to his parents, Hank was preceded in death by his brother Ed Andre, his sister Irene ONeal, and nephew Chuck Andre.

Memorial service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main Street (Rte. 83), Antioch, IL. Memorial visitation will be held from 12 noon until service time. INFO 847-395-4000. Interment of ashes will be private in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, WI. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Silver Lake Rescue Squad, in his memory.
