Irene Matoska, 94, of Kenosha, passed away on

Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Brookside Care Center.

Born on Feb. 12, 1919, in Kenosha, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Durik.

Irene was united in marriage to Irwin P. Matoska on November 10, 1950 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. They were blessed with 49 years of marriage before he passed away on Nov. 23, 2001.

Over the years, she was employed with A & P Grocery Store and National Foods at the Deli counter, as well as working as a cook at Crocks Restaurant and Valley Supper Club.

Irene was a former member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and former member of the Kenosha Women of the Moose Chapter #155. She had a passion for gardening, especially roses, was an avid reader of romance novels, loved to cook, bake and swim. Irene and Irwin always looked forward to their annual trips to Minocqua and enjoyed spending time having picnics together.

She will be deeply missed by her two nephews, Matthew (Susan) and Daniel Matoska, and her two great nephews, Andy and Tommy Matoska, they were her joy.

In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by her siblings, Louise Durik, Margaret Benco, Anne Goverkar, George, Anthony and Edward Durik.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at 7 p.m. at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. Private interment will be held in St. George Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of Brookside Care Center, Dr. Giuseppe Garretto and nurses, Rachel and Gilda for their extraordinary care given to Irene.
