Jane White

Jane Schulte White

1938 - 2013

Jane Schulte White was born on April 17, 1938, in Kenosha, Wis. She passed away while traveling in Ecuadors Galapagos Islands on the afternoon of Dec. 28, surrounded by her family.

She attended St. Marks School in Kenosha and St. Catherines High School in Racine. In her early years, she developed a love of numerous watersports including competitive swimming and waterskiing. Her experience teaching swimming in high school inspired her career choice to be a school teacher.

She graduated from The College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minn., where she strengthened her Catholic faith as a daily communicant. Directly after college she married William J. White of Kenosha. At her wedding in August of 1960, Janes father, Dr. George Schulte, acknowledged her unique character when presenting her to her spouse saying, You will not have a dull life.

Over their 53 years together Jane and Bill enjoyed extensive business travel, active family vacations and European bike trips with friends. They shared a loyalty to Bills alma mater, Northwestern University, where Jane took classes and regularly attended performances and football games. Ultimately they chose to spend their winters in Maui, Hawaii where they snorkeled, and played tennis and golf frequently. While in Hawaii, she was an active volunteer at the local Catholic parish.

Janes significant interests included gardening, investing, tennis, cooking and Bible study. She complemented her backyard gardening skills by volunteering weekly at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. The organization recognized her with a 20 year service award in July. For over two decades she was an active member of the oldest womens investment club, based in Winnetka, where she lived for over three decades. She was a longstanding participant in her local tennis group.

Jane was a terrific cook. Her grandchildren have benefited from her cooking lessons and were amazed that she was able to juggle eggs. They take even more pride in letting their friends know their grandmother still actively slalom waterskied at 74.

Jane is survived by her husband, William White, who continues to reside in Winnetka; four siblings, Louise Johnson, Gretchen Neff and Michael and Joseph Schulte; four children, James (Patty Ann) White of Portola Valley, Calif., Thomas (Liz) White of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mia (Tim) McNary and Gretchen (Dennis) Flowers of Glenview, Ill.; and 13 grandchildren, Benjamin, Slater, Bill, Stuart, Brian, Brigid, Patrick, Amy, Maggie, Cutter, Colin, Mary Jane and Ellie. Her legacy of a life lived to the fullest and a steadfast faith lives on in each of them.
