John Alan Dayer
John Alan Dayer, 75, of Beach Park, Ill. passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Vista Medical Center East, Waukegan, Ill.
He was born April 29, 1938 in Waukegan, the son of the late John A. and Mildred B. (Shales) Dayer. John spent most of his life living in Waukegan, and had proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He enjoyed spending time with his children, and woodworking projects, as well as fitness activities, especially volleyball. John also liked fishing. He retired in 2004 as Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Waukegan. On Feb. 17, 1996 he married Patricia Beyers in Waukegan.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, who is employed by the Waukegan Park District; his children, Robin Dayer of Gurnee, Ill., Chris of Tampa, Fla., Mark (Amy) of Hawthorn Woods, Ill., John of Irvine, Calif.; and step-children, Jason (Cheryl) Parrish of Arpin, Wis. and Theron J. Parrish of Waterford, Wis.; siblings, Edward LaMartin, James Dayer, and Penny (John) Hershman; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a step-son, John Parrish.
Funeral services with Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 at Holy Cross East Church, Hwy V, 1/4 mile west of Rte. 45, Bristol, Wis. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Scholastica Cemetery, Bristol, Wis. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch.
