John A. Ehmig

John A. Ehmig, 83, of Paddock Lake, Wis., formerly of Burbank, Ill., passed away Sunday May 12, 2013 at Kindred Healthcare, Burlington, Wis.
He was born Sept. 20, 1929 in New Haven, CT, the son of the late John V. and Alice Lempi (Kujanpa) Ehmig. John proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Post #281 Cuyahoga Falls, OH. John grew up in Akron, OH, later moving to Chicago and Burbank, Ill., before settling in Paddock Lake, Wis., in 1988 after summering there since 1943. John was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Brighton, Wis., and former member of St. Albert the Great Church, Burbank, Ill.
John was an avid golfer (playing at Twin Lakes Country Club and Brightondale Golf Course regularly), taught golf at Moraine Valley College, enjoyed traveling, playing on bowling leagues and softball leagues, playing pool, and was a Jazz music aficionado. Before his retirement in 1988, John had worked over 23 years as a foreign expediter at Clark Equipment/Volvo. On May 27, 1950 he married Dolores M. Washack at St. Gabriels Church, Chicago.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years Dolores; three children, Cathy (Dale) Brooks of Vail, Ariz., Maureen (Michael) Paz of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mark (Mary) Ehmig of Burbank, Ill; 11 grandchildren, Lori, Jason, Lisa, Marybeth, Adam, Joseph, James, Michael, Brian, Denis, and Neil; three great-grandchildren, Zakary, Devin, and Isabella; two sisters Eleanor Washack of Sturtevant, Wis., and Marianne James of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother Frank.
Funeral Services with Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday May 15, 2013 at St. Albert the Great Church 5555 State Rd. Burbank, IL 60459. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, IL. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Strang Funeral Home 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch, IL 60002.
