Marv Cottingham

1939 - 2014

Marvin D. Marv Cottingham, 74, of Kenosha, died on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at United Hospital System Kenosha Hospital Campus, with his loving family by his side.

Born on Aug. 2, 1939, in Racine, he was the son of the late Marvin D. and Pauline (Cipov) Cottingham, Sr. He was a 1959 graduate from Chetek High School.

From Aug. 3, 1956, until Oct. 9, 1956, Marvin honorably served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman recruit.

On Aug. 14, 1965, at St. James Trinity Lutheran Church in Fall Creek, Wis., he was united in marriage to Gloria R. Michal.

For 37 years, he was employed in the engine department with AMC/Chrysler Corporation, retiring in 1997. American Motors Corporation sent Marvin to Bancock to help them with engine development. Previously, he was employed with Hamilton Beach and worked for the carnival where he met his wife, Gloria. Marvin was a professional Santa Claus for over 20 years. He met many children over the years at Gateway Cafe;.

Marvin attended Lord of Life Lutheran Church and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Kenosha County Sheriff Citizens Academy and U.A.W. Local #72. He enjoyed watching football and for many years, he coached the CYC Pee Wee Packer Football League. His passion and love was being outdoors, camping with friends, and being with his family; especially his grandkids who he absolutely adored. Marvin was proud of his life, his accomplishments, and the way he lived it. Many will remember him as being a very honest family man.

He is survived by his wife of over 48 years, Gloria Cottingham; his two daughters, Michelle (Uri) Samson of Chicago, Ill., and Dawn (Michael) Procter of Reedsburg, Wis.; and his four grandchildren, Emma, Samual, Addison and Arianna.

Marvin is further survived by his two sisters, Jeanann (Bill) Hughes of North Highlands, Calif., and Andrea (Ron) Boggess of New Auburn, Wis., and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Cottingham.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 5601 Washington Rd. Interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. A visitation for Marvin will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, June 29, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
