Ruth Ellen Price

1931 - 2013

Someone very special has left us. Ruth Ellen Price, formerly of Kenosha, Wis., passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, at The Renaissance Assisted Living Facility in Weston, Wis.

Ruth was born May 19, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., to Kathryn (Carpenter) and Stanley Price. She graduated from Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, Ill., in 1949. Ruth went on to earn her BA in biology in 1953 from Willamette College in Oregon, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority, serving as its President at one time. In 1977 she obtained a Masters Degree in Health Care Management from Central Michigan University. She also took concentrated training courses in Medical Technology at Northwestern University in Chicago.

Ruth worked as a lab technician at several hospitals in the Chicago and Portland, Oregon areas. In 1955, she moved to Kenosha, where she worked at St. Catherines Hospital for two years. In 1957, she accepted a Teaching Assistant position at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, but her heart was in Medical Technology, so she was welcomed back to St. Catherines in Kenosha. Ruth was the Laboratory Administrator there until her retirement in 1988. From 1977-1988 Ruth also served as a consultant for the DuPont Company. Ruth was a member of St. Mathews Episcopal Church.

Ruth was an accomplished pianist, having taken lessons from age 6-21. She loved her beautiful Steinway piano. Playing and listening to classical music were favorite hobbies. Ruth was an avid bridge player, belonging to several groups in Kenosha. Ruth was a proud member of the PEO Womens Club of Kenosha, having served as a board member and President at one time. Gardening was another passion for Ruth, as well as the three special Schnauzers she had as pets. She loved them all like family! Ruth enjoyed traveling and prided herself on having been in every state of the union except Hawaii. Vacationing at her parents cottage in Sister Bay, Door County was also a favorite activity.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ruth is survived by her cousins, Don Price and his wife Candy, of Weston, Wis., and Jon Price, of Laguna Woods, Calif., and good friends Lil Hauschild and Barbara Tolstyga of Kenosha. We will miss her special brand of humor and spirited conversations!

No funeral services will be held. Burial will be in Door County at Blossomberg Cemetery in Peninsula State Park, Fish Creek, WI.

Brainard Funeral Home-Everest Chapel, Weston is in charge of arrangements.

Online condolences may be given at www.brainardfuneral.com

The family would like to thank the staff at The Renaissance and the Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Program for the wonderful care they provided for Ruth. We would like to extend a special thank-you to Kay Wojciechowski, who specifically brightened Ruths stay there.
