Steven Donald Larson, 52, of Pleasant Prairie, passed away on Friday, Feb. 22, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born in Kenosha on Jan. 31, 1961; he was the son of Donald and Carol (Kress) Larson.
On April 13, 2012, he married the love of his life and devoted partner of 23 years, Diana Chromik in their home.
Steven worked for the Kenosha Police Department for over 28 years. He first began his career as a police officer on Jan. 16, 1984. On Jan. 2, 1997, he was promoted to Sergeant. Three years later on Jan. 6, 2000, he was promoted to Lieutenant. He served as the Gang Crimes Supervisor from 1998 until 2001. Most recently, on Feb. 1, 2011, he was promoted to Captain. He received the Silver Star Award from the KPPA for an incident involving an armed subject. He has numerous commendations for his involvement in cases ranging from criminal damage to homicide investigations, and from dealing with suicidal subjects to apprehension of armed robbery and homicide suspects. He also received two lifesaving awards. Letters of appreciation in his file stretch back to Chief Trottas command in the early 1980s.
He loved woodworking, fishing with his brothers and loved his dogs.
Steven is survived by his loving wife, Diana; his parents, Donald and Carol Larson of Kenosha; two brothers, William H. (Denise) Larson and Paul T. (Valerie) Larson both of Kenosha; one sister, Linda (Randy) Grundy of Johnsburg, Ill. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28, at Proko Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Thursday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the KPSOA or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
