GREENVILLE - Donna Winfree Staton, 70, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, November 6, 2013, in the arms of her family at home. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel, Greenville, by the Rev. Haywood Smith. Mrs. Staton, daughter of the late Charles M. and Nellie F. Winfree, was a longtime resident of Pitt County. Donna attended Bob Jones University; she was a school teacher for many years, beloved by all her students and parents. Following her teaching career she was a manager at Hertz Rental Car. Donna was an avid cook who enjoyed cooking for her family and friends who especially enjoyed her delectable desserts. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be greatly missed by all. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Winfree. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Herbert Staton; daughters Donna Roach of Greenville, Brenda Ward and husband Larry, of Williamston, Robin LeNeave and husband Bobby, of Greenville, and Margaret Smith and husband Greg, of Kinston; grandchildren, Candice Summerlin, Lane Ward, Nikki Kurtz and husband Ryan, Courtney LeNeave, Jordan LeNeave, Lauren Harris, Daniel Harris, and Spencer Harris; great-grandchildren, Christian Summerlin, Trenton and Daniel Harris; brother Robert Winfree and wife Thelma; and a sister in-law, Vicki Zajdel. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Community Home Care and Hospice and especially their kind and loving nurse, Angie LaCross. Donna's words to live by, Proverbs 3:5-6.
