PANAMA CITY, Fla. - Mrs. Mattie Eunice Sutton Givens passed from this life to the life of eternal peace with God on October 7, 2013. Born on September 2, 1929, in Albertson, North Carolina to Cecil Rudolph Sutton and Pennie Stroud Sutton, Mattie was always a country farm girl at heart even though she traveled the world as an Air Force wife, and she herself proudly served our nation in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Surviving Mattie are her two daughters, Connie Zales of Panama City Beach and Kellie Ridings and her husband Dean, of Tallahassee; her three grandchildren, Blake Ridings and Amy Ridings of Tallahassee and Claren Ashley Zales, of Panama City Beach; her brother, Joe Sutton and his wife Carol, of Concord, North Carolina; sister-in-law Harriet Sutton of Warner Robins, Georgia; brother-in-law Millard Givens of Laurel Hill, Florida; Jack Nichols, of Panama City, a treasured friend who became a part of her family; and numerous cherished cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clarence Luvon Givens, her brothers, Bruce Sutton, Arnold Sutton and Carl Sutton, and a beloved long-time companion, Dave Kerr. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 12 at 2 p.m. at Kent Forest Lawn Chapel with Chaplain Virgil Tillman officiating. The family would like to welcome friends to visit with them at Kent Forest Lawn Chapel and share their fond memories of Mattie's long, loving life on Friday, October 11 from 7 until 8 pm.
