LA GRANGE - William Preston Emerson, 79, of La Grange, passed away Friday, July 13, 2012. Preston was born August 21, 1932 in Lenoir County to the late William Clarence Emerson and Effie Pool Emerson. Preston was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Bryan Emerson. He served with the United States Air Force during the Korean War and later received a Doctorate from Michigan State University. Preston retired following thirty two years of service from Lenoir Community College as Dean of Student Affairs. Preston was active in his community where he has served as a Lenoir County Commissioner and on the Kinston Airport Commission. He was a Mason and Rotarian who enjoyed helping and serving others. Preston enjoyed fishing and cherished time spent on the farm. A service of remembrance will be held Monday, July 16, 2012 at 10 a.m. from Rouse Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park. Preston is survived by a son, Michael Preston Emerson of La Grange; two daughters, Karen and Claudia; grandson, Jeffrey Dail; sister, Selma Doris Emerson Carlin and husband, James of King; a special nephew, William Albert Carlin and wife, Nancy of Kinston; a special aunt, Peggy Colie of La Grange; along with his housekeeper and caregiver, Zeabie Wilson.
