KINSTON - William Earl Herring, 87, of Kinston, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Annie Moore Herring, wife Mary Dickerson Herring and sister Edna Herring Taylor and friend Hugh Hill. William served his Country for 38 years as a W2 Chief 1 Officer in the U.S. Army, serving in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW Post 2771 and American Legion Post 43 of Kinston and NC National Guard in Snow Hill. Survivors include his niece Hilda Herring Smith and friend Ronnie Stanley, sister-in-law Dorothy Dickerson Moore all of Kinston; nephews Randy Moore of Kinston and Danny Moore of S.C.; great niece Kathy S. Worley, and the twinkle in his eyes Perry West, Eli and Triston Stanley; special friends Wilbur King, Joe Hargett and staff of King's Hwy 70 and J. E. Blizzard and staff of Contract Flooring & Design. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2013 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home and other times at 2237 Pauls Path Road Kinston. Funeral services are at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at the Funeral Home with Reverend Seth Jones of Community Home Care and Hospice officiating. Burial will follow at Westview.
