CAMPBELL, DR. ADA MARIE - age 93, died November 14, 2013 at Shannondale Health Care of Maryville. She was born and reared in the central Iowa town of Jewell. She attended and received degrees from Iowa State (BS), the University of Iowa (MA), and Cornell University (PhD). Dr. Campbell's academic career took her to North Dakota State, New Mexico State, and UCLA prior to her joining the faculty at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1961. She was a professor of Nutrition and Food Science until her retirement in 1982. Following retirement, Ada Marie was active in a number of volunteer roles. For eight years she served as a docent for the Knoxville Zoo. While serving in that capacity, she developed a slide show to take to area schools, and she enjoyed giving tours of the zoo for school children. She was also a volunteer for the Knoxville Symphony League, the Senior Citizens Home Assistance Service, and the Fish Program (food pantry) at Second Presbyterian Church. Other services included participation in the League of Women Voters in both Knox and Blount counties, and tutoring at Montvale Elementary School in Blount County. Dr. Campbell is survived by a cousin, Kenneth Queensland and his wife Elloyce, of Blue Earth, Minnesota. She is also survived by many former students and friends whose lives she touched in many significant ways. A memorial service will be held at New Providence Presbyterian Church in Maryville on Saturday, November 23, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Maryville Kiwanis Foundation, 576 Foothills Plaza Drive, PMB 154, Maryville, TN 37801-2305.
