MEYERS, BARBARA B. - age 63, of Knoxville, formerly of Atlanta, Georgia, died Saturday morning, April 19, 2014, at her home. She was a member of Temple Beth El. Barbara was a graduate of the University of Georgia and continued on to receive her masters in speech pathology from the University of Virginia. She was involved for many years in fundraising for the women's athletic department at the University of Tennessee, Meals on Wheels, and Kids on the Block. The love that everyone who knew Barbara had for her, stretched beyond the limits of verbal description. She was a living example of selflessness and kindness. Barbara never hesitated to help a stranger as they were her own family. There was never a time where she did not put others first in every aspect of life. It was impossible not to love and respect Barbara. The only small consolation in her parting is knowing the immense degree of lasting goodness she has left on so many people in this world who had the good fortune crossing her path. Barbara was preceded in death by mother, Shirley S. Blumenthal and father Philip Blumenthal. She is survived by her devoted husband, Dr. Anthony (Tony) Meyers; son, Zachary (Zack) Simon Meyers; daughter, Leigh Brooke (Brooke) Meyers; brother, Mark (Bo) Blumenthal and wife Patti; sister, Karen B. (Cookie) Serotta and husband Abram. There will be a private family service with Rabbi Mathew Michaels officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of Tennessee Cancer Institute, 1924 Alcoa Highway Bldg. F, Knoxville, TN 37920. The family will receive friends at the family home, 5656 Lyons View Pike, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday and Monday afternoon. Online condolences may be sent to Arrangements provided by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
