TEAL, CHARLES "CHUCK" BENJAMIN, JR., M.D. - age 92 of Maryville, TN, and formerly of Gainesville, GA, passed away on May 19, 2014. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Chuck was born in Fitzgerald, GA the only child of Charles B. Teal, Sr. and Eunice Daniel Teal, who predeceased him. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Arline J. Teal; two daughters, Linda Teal Willoughby and husband, Kent Willoughby of Maryville and Janice Teal and husband, Dennis Ling of Naples, FL. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Sheri Willoughby Eklund and husband, Fredrik and Kevin T. Willoughby and his step grandchildren, Matthew Ling, James Ling and Kathryn Ling and his precious great granddaughter, Eleanor T. Eklund. Chuck was a US Army veteran of WW II and served on the Manhattan Project at the University of Rochester. He graduated with honors from the University of Georgia and received his M.D. degree from Syracuse University College of Medicine and a Masters of Public Health from the University of North Carolina. He practiced medicine as a family practitioner for 15 years and served for 19 years as District Medical Director of Public Health overseeing 13 counties in Northeast Georgia. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Gainesville, GA and the Open Door Sunday school class, the Rotary Club and served as a volunteer in the community. Chuck liked movies, lectures, reading, walking and being with his family. He and his wife moved to Shannondale in Maryville in November 2010 where they made many new friends and he received compassionate care in his last days. There will be a celebration of his life on June 14th at 2:00 p.m. at the New Providence Presbyterian Church, 703 Broadway in Maryville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
