TROTTER, REVEREND DAVID RUSSELL, JR. - age 94, of Knoxville, Tennessee, was peacefully called home by the Lord on Thursday, July 17, 2014. David was born on December 25, 1919 at Knoxville General Hospital as a Christmas gift to parents David Trotter, Sr. and Maude Margaret Reynolds Trotter. He graduated from Knoxville High School before receiving his B.A. Degree in Business Administration from Milligan College in 1943. At Milligan, he also lettered in track and was active in dramatics with the Milligan College Players. David served in the United States Air Force from 1942-'46, being stationed in Casablanca, French Morocco, and attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was also active in the USAF Reserve until 1962. David was working as a sales representative for Swift Ice Cream Co., when he met his future wife, Clarice Anderson on the campus of LMU. They were married at First Christian Church on November 22, 1951, a union that lasted over 62 years. In 1959, David was ordained into the ministry at First Christian Church and served as the Minister of Christian Education there, as well as Interim Minister from 1966 until 1968. He later became a member of Central United Methodist Church, teaching the Married Couples Class for over 25 years, and later becoming a member of the Builder's Class. In 1967 he began a new career as a Guidance Counselor in the Knox County School System, serving first at Doyle High School and later moving to Carter High, before retiring in 1992. All of these experiences afforded him the opportunity to shape lives as a youth counselor, a profession that he thoroughly enjoyed. Over the years many students sought his advice as both a counselor and a friend. David grew up around drug stores and enjoyed being a part-time clerk at local pharmacies, including Brown's Drug Store at Five Points as well as Chilhowee Pharmacy. David was predeceased by parents, David and Maude Trotter, wife Clarice Trotter, and sister, Barbara Boykin. He is survived by children, David R. Trotter, III and wife Victoria, Geoffrey Trotter, Patricia Johnson and husband Mike, and Jeanne Kidd and husband Mark, all of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Jess Johnson of Knoxville and Jared Stultz and wife Jeannette of Mascoutah, IL; great-grandson, Davis Stultz and two nieces, Jan Boykin of Williamsburg, VA and Julie Fox of Knoxville.
