CAIN, DONALD AMES - age 85, of Knoxville, passed away Friday, December 13th. Donald was born in Providence, Rhode Island to William and Lilian Bateman Cain. Mr. Cain is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Billie Dawn Cain; son, Donald Ames Cain II and his wife Emile of Rockwood, TN; daughters Terri Lee Hantke and her husband, James of Denver, CO; Patti Marie Cain of Vero Beach, FL; and Dona C. Jones and her husband, Mario of Coal Valley, IL; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mr. Cain was a retired Lt. Colonel with 20 years of service with the US Army Ordnance Division. Ltc. Cain was a decorated veteran having served in both the Korean and Viet Nam wars. Donald earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rhode Island State and went on to earn his Master's Degree in Civil Engineering and his Doctorate of Education from the University of South Carolina. Dr. Cain served as the first Academic Dean at State Technical Institute at Knoxville (Pellissippi State). He was Vice Chancellor of Technical Education at Arkansas State University, Beebe. Dr. Cain's last professional position was as a consultant to the Ministry of Education for the country of Turkey. His family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m, Wednesday, December 18th at Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN. Graveside services, with full military honors, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 19th, at the Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery, 2200 East Governor John Sevier Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The , 871 N.
