KIRK, DONALD WAYNE - funeral services for Donald Wayne Kirk, 77, of Knoxville, who died July 23 at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville following major heart surgery, will be Monday, July 28, at Smithwood Baptist Church in Fountain City. Visitation with the family will begin at 6:00 p.m. The funeral, to be officiated by the church's senior pastor, Dr. Mark Gaskins, and former pastor Dr. David Crutchley, will follow at 8:00 p.m. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 200 E. Gov. John Sevier Highway 168, in Knoxville. Wayne is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Louise Parvin Kirk, and their beloved pet, Andy; a brother, Jerry Kirk and wife Jane; and their son, Chris, his wife Anna; and their daughters, Sloan and Caroline, all of Brentwood. As an active member and deacon of Smithwood Baptist Church, Wayne was deeply involved in congregational care activities and several community service and outreach projects, including Fountain City Ministry. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Born April 4, 1937, in Morristown, to the late Wright and Lochiel Brooks Kirk, Wayne grew up in the Whitesburg community of Hamblen County, graduating in 1955 from Whitesburg High School. Later that year, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and spent five years as a hospital corpsman with the Navy in California and the Marine Corps on Okinawa. A veteran truck driver, Wayne was employed first by Mason-Dixon Lines, Inc., and retired from Yellow Freight Lines in Nashville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Wayne's memory be made to Smithwood Baptist Church, 4914 Jacksboro Pike, Knoxville, TN 37918 or Fountain City Ministry Center, P.O.
