RIEGER, GEORGE HAROLD - age 82, of Knoxville, died on April 23, 2014. He was born on March 8, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa. He received Bachelors & Masters Degrees from Drake University and served in the United States Marine Corps. George had a long career in the insurance business including positions as Senior Vice President of The Hartford Insurance Group in Hartford, CT, the President & CEO of Appalachian National Life Insurance, Co. in Knoxville, TN and the owner & President of Southern Employee Benefit Services, Inc. in Knoxville, TN. George served on the Board of Directors of the Arts Council of Greater Knoxville, the Knox Area Chapter of the American Red Cross (Chairman), the United Way, the Greater Knoxville Beautification Board (President), Junior Achievement (President), the Great Smoky Mountain Council of the Boy Scouts of America (Vice President), the Rotary Club of Knoxville (Paul Harris Fellow), & the University of Tennessee Chancellor's Associates. He was also a graduate of the Leadership Knoxville Class of 1988. George was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Clifton Rieger and Ruth Rieger McCall. He is survived by his wife Diana Sills Rieger; brothers Donald Rieger and Dennis Rieger; children Linda Kimball of Portland, ME, Karen (Paul) Schorkopf of Franklin, TN, Deborah (Eric) Stillwell of Chantilly, VA, Sandra (Doug) Flowers of Summer Duck, VA, George H. (Sheri) Rieger II of Brentwood, TN, Tobias (Laura) Weas of Asheville, NC, & Molly (Justin) Treadwell of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren Stephen Kimball, Meghan Kimball, Geoffrey Schorkopf, Timothy Schorkopf, Douglas Schorkopf, Christine Stillwell, Kaitlyn Stillwell, Jessica Stillwell, Jack Bruton, Brittney Bruton Firaben, Austin Bruton, George H. Rieger III, Amelia Rieger, Parker Rieger, Zachary Weas, Hannah Weas, Hayden Treadwell & Avery Treadwell. A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, April 26 at St Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, 110 Sugarwood Drive, Farragut with The Rev. Carol E. Westpfahl officiating. A reception will follow in Tharp Hall of the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley.
