BUNDREN, R. B. ("PETE") ("BUD") - Age 90, of Knoxville, passed away on April 7, 2014. He was born in Knoxville and was a veteran of World War II serving in the Philippines from 1943 to 1946. He worked for 29 years as a policeman and detective in the Knoxville Police Department from 1949 until 1978. After retiring he worked for United American Bank for 5 years, and then joined the Knox County Sheriff's Department in 1984 where he was employed for 25 years as a criminal court officer working primarily for Judge Mary Beth Leibowitz. He retired in 2009. His favorite hobby was his model railroad train. He loved his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal; daughter, Teresa Bundren; parents, Ruben Bleuf and Beatrice Bundren; sister, Ruby Ford, brother, Lawrence Bundren, all of Knoxville; and daughter-in-law, Christine Bundren of East Point, KY. He leaves behind his son, Robert (Bob) and wife Mary of Sevierville; son David King and wife Diane of Spring, TX: son, Michael and special friend Carol Flint of East Point, KY; daughter, Sherry and husband Tim Seay of Louisville, TN; son, Danny and wife Pat of Nashville, TN; daughter Mary of Knoxville; also granddaughter, Michelle Simmons and husband Steve of Nashville; grandson, R. Brandon Bundren and wife Heidi of Houston, TX; grandson, Jason and wife Kristin of Leeds, AL; grandson, James Bryant Bales of Knoxville; grandson, Randall Blair of Knoxville; grandson, David King, Jr. of Spring, TX; granddaughter, Kim King Dias of Spring, TX; also great-grandchildren Tavner, Addison and Keaton Simmons of Nashville, Riley Brayden Bundren of Houston, TX, Reid Baylor Bundren of Leeds, AL, Madeline and Khole King of Spring, TX; also sister-in-law Loretta Weddington of Leander, KY and brother-in-law Kenneth Weddington and wife Joyce of Saline, Michigan. The family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers and clinical staff in Building 4 at Homewood Assisted Living, particularly Tonya, Cathy, Angie, Tracy and Ashley. They are also grateful for the excellent health care provided by Dr. Jessica Ivey. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Stevens Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Kenneth Clayton officiating. Interment will follow at Lynnhurst Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Knoxville Police Department and the Knox County Sheriff's Office. Pallbearers are R. Brandon Bundren, Jason Bundren, Bryant Bales, Blair Bundren, Tavner Simmons and Addison Simmons. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway. Mr. Bundren's guest book is available at
