BAKER, REBECCA J. (BYERS) "BECKY" - age 72 of Loudon, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014. Becky was a longtime member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Loudon. She had a heart for education; a true heart. She would patiently instruct an adult student who was learning English as a second language, or lovingly assist a single-mother who was struggling to better herself by receiving a GED. She could also be found instructing prisoners looking for that second chance at redemption, or that challenging student who needed the "hands-on Becky Baker" method of a chance at success. Becky was devoted to her craft. She didn't just teach you, she tracked your progress. She took great pride in knowing how you pursued your dreams. Becky enjoyed traveling, yard selling and antiquing with her husband, Barry. She was a proud graduate of the Ohio State University and an avid fan of collegiate sports, but she was especially passionate about her "Buckeyes", the Lady Vols and the NY Yankees. Her proudest achievements were her children, grandchildren and her students. She was a loyal and trusted friend to many who will miss her in their world. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Edward Byers. Survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, W. Barry Baker, Loudon; daughters and son in-law, Lella Baker, Marlborough, MA, Sarah and Don McDowell, Okemah, OK; son and daughter in-law, Nathan and Evie Baker, Harrison, TN; mother, Alois Byers; grandchildren, Donald, Patrick, Kathryn, Emily, Lauren and Evan; sisters and brothers in-law, Sue Wilson, Richardson, TX, Deborah and Michael Charlton, Washington, DC, Sandy and Carl Edwards, Katy, TX; ten nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Services honoring and remembering Becky Baker will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 15th, Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Loudon with Rev. Nick Coker and Rev. Carlton Harper officiating.
