MCCONKEY, ROBERT (BOB) C. - graveside services have been set for Robert (Bob) C. McConkey, who departed this world to be with God on December 30, 2013. A native East Tennessean who served in the U.S. Air Force from 1946-49 and later became a highly regarded corporate pilot, flight instructor and FAA pilot examiner, Bob died at the age of 84 surrounded by his loving family in his home in Knoxville. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sue; his first wife, Margaret; and their six children, Cathy Morrison, Bob McConkey Jr., Mike McConkey, Doug McConkey, Nancy Nolen and Cindy McConkey Cox; eleven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother, John; sister, Maxine; mother, Eleanor; and father, Robert. His remains will be buried at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Highway in Knoxville during a small graveside memorial on Friday, February 7, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Carl Bridges Jr. presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Family Medical Assistance Fund, fulfilling Bob's desire to assist two of his children in their ongoing battles with cancer and Parkinson's disease.
