HILL, ROBERT EWING, SR. - age 86 of Knoxville, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2013 after a brief illness. He had been in declining health for several years. Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who gave of himself without hesitation. He will always be remembered for his optimism, patience and gentle spirit, and for the twinkle in his eye. He was a native of Nashville, Tennessee and attended Vanderbilt University. He was past President of three Knoxville area businesses - Siler Brokerage Company, Siler Bean Company and Knox Storage. He was a member and past deacon of First Baptist Church of Knoxville where he was an active member. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Knoxville since 1964 and was president in 1983-1984. He served as a trustee of Baptist Hospital Foundation Board of Directors and the Foundation Advisory Board for a combination of 14 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ashley Provine Hill, Sr. and Mary Kathleen Hill; his brother, Ashley Provine Hill, Jr; his sisters, Eleanor Hill Hutchinson and Peggy Hill Demarest. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Caroline Siler Hill; daughters and sons-in-law, Cherry and Gary Jones of Richmond, Virginia, Caroline and Chris Milne of Greenback, Tennessee, and Mary Beth and Chuck Dean of Birmingham, Alabama; son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. Hill, Jr. and Margaret of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Garrison and Graham Jones of Boston, Massachusetts, Caroline Jones of Richmond, Virginia, Stewart, Bess and Patrick Milne of Greenback, Tennessee, Emily, Caroline and Rob Dean of Birmingham, Alabama, Marshall and Katherine Hill of Jacksonville, Florida. The family would like to thank his loving caregivers for the last years of his life. Following a private interment, there will be a memorial service on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Knoxville officiated by Reverend Robert Money and Reverend Dave Ward. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 510 W. Main Street, Knoxville, Tennessee 37902.
