BEATY, ROYCE - age 83, of Norris, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 at his residence. He and his wife Jelna celebrated 59 years of marriage and was a resident of Norris for 55 years. Royce was a member and past master of the Masonic Valley Lodge #383 in Andersonville, member of Hinds Creek Baptist Church and the Norris Lions Club. He served with the 226th Company in the Korean War with 10 years of active duty in the United States Army. He completed the remainder of his 21 year military career serving with the 134th refueling unit in the Air Force National Guard. He was awarded the Japan Occupational Medal, Korean Service Medal, 4 Bronze Service Stars, and Meritorious Unit Commendation while serving in the military. Royce retired from Martin Marietta's Y12 plant in 1992. He had a passion for helping the youth in Anderson County and touched many young lives and was one of the founding Fathers of the NAGAF recreational organization. Preceded in death by parents John and Nova Beaty; sister, Lois Beaty. He is survived by: wife, Margaret Jelna Beaty of Norris; sons, Mark & wife Connie Beaty of Norris, Bobby & wife Patty Beaty of Loudon, Johnny Beaty of AL; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Vicky Hutchison for her loving care given to Royce this past year during his illness. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 pm, Monday, September 30, 2013 at Holley Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services following in the chapel. His burial will be 12:00 noon, Tuesday at the Woodhaven Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to NAGAF, P.O. Box 603, Norris, TN 37828.
