SHOCKLEY, WILLIAM ESTON - age 85, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at his home. He was born December 30, 1927, in Sparta, Tennessee, the son of Eston and Blossom Gist Shockley. Mr. Shockley retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory where he worked for 43 years as a senior engineering technologist at the X-10 plant. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. In years past, he was a commodore of the Oak Ridge Boat Club, member of the Elks Clubs and a coach with the Oak Ridge Boys Club. He was a member of the American Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and one of the named inventors on four separate patents. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Winzle J. Shockley; and daughter, Carolyn Shockley Johnson. He is survived by son, Andy Shockley and wife Carla of Pleasanton, CA; son-in-law, Chuck Johnson of Kingston, TN; brother, Ernie Shockley of Brentwood, TN; and grandchildren, Rachel and Jessica Shockley, also of Pleasanton, CA. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
