HUCKABY, WILLIAM "BILL" OVERTON, III - 68, died on September 28, 2013, at Lakeway Regional Hospital. Bill was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. After living in both Michigan and Colorado, he settled in Tennessee where he raised his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Overton Huckaby, Jr. and Lovine Beth Huckaby. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ann Carter Huckaby; his daughters, Beth Huckaby Wells of Knoxville, TN, and Susan Marie Huckaby of Morristown, TN; grandson, Hayden Allen Wells of Knoxville, TN; brother, Tom Huckaby (Judy) of Nashville, TN; niece, Carol Elizabeth Huckaby of Chattanooga, TN; special in-laws, Judy Carter, Frances and Bill Potter, Richard and Joyce Carter, and Pattie and Rick Hall; family friend, Robbie Barnett; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Bill received his B.A. (Mathematics) from David Lipscomb University, and his M.A. (Mathematics) and Ph.D. (Educational Leadership) from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. His inquisitive nature and passion for learning inspired his endless desire for knowledge and love for teaching. His career included public secondary education, college teaching (including graduate level), training and development, and continuous improvement within industry. Twenty-five years ago, he and Ann were among the co-founders of Project Graduation in Morristown. In addition to having a brilliant mind, he was an accomplished artist, musician, teacher, and craftsman. The beauty he brought to the world with his gifts was given freely. He believed in standing for the right thing, even if he stood alone. Bill was passionate about experiencing the world and had an insatiable desire to invest and immerse himself in other cultures. He and Ann began travelling together shortly after they were married in July of 1968. After experiencing all 50 states, their travels took them to Canada, Japan, China, Peru, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and most European countries. During his career, he spent time working in both Brazil and Mexico. Not only were Bill's world travels about his personal experience, but also about finding ways to share those experiences with others. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, October 5 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home in Morristown, TN (http://allenfuneralhome.us/Home.html), and a celebration of life will be held at the Huckaby's home at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to MATS - Ministerial Association Temporary Shelter, 324 North Hill Street, Morristown, TN 37814, or SPLC - Southern Poverty Law Center (http://www.splcenter.org/).
