IVA JOYCE DRAPER, PhD

Died on November 26, 2013, at her home in Sherman Oaks.

Born August 16, 1929 in North Hollywood, to John Draper and Ionia Doris Arnold, she graduated from Van Nuys High School, Class of 1947, and UCLA. Joyce was a secondary teacher and later an assistant principal in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Upon retirement she went back to college to earn a Doctorate and a second Master's degree in Psychology. Pursuing her new profession, she provided counseling for many in the valley area. Some favorite activities she enjoyed included earning her pilots license at 16 which allowed her to take off on multiple adventures with friends. During a few summer vacations, Joyce worked as a stewardess, and had some interesting experiences working with the Flying Tigers post WWII. As a bright and intelligent woman she also was an avid reader and loved to discuss a wide range of topics. A Memorial is planned for January 20th, to enable her entire family and many friends to attend. She is survived by her twin sister, Eva Draper Fugitt (husband John) of Ashland, OR; sister, Jonnie Mae Tumbull of London, England; and 16 nieces and nephews.
